August 2026 Fourth heatwave: uneven veraison

In the vineyard…

July was marked by hot, dry and very sunny weather. These conditions helped to keep the vineyard in good health, with very few diseases observed on the grapes.

However, the high temperatures and lack of water slowed down the ripening of the grapes at times, particularly on the most exposed parcels. This slowdown is a natural phenomenon as the vines seek to protect themselves from the stress caused by the heat and drought.

By the end of the month, veraison (the change in colour of the grapes) was appearing very unevenly across the parcels: some showed only the first coloured berries, whilst others had already passed the halfway point of veraison.

The rest of the ripening process will depend mainly on the weather conditions in August.

In view of another early harvest date, preparations for the winery are being brought forward.
