May 2020 Early season…
In the vineyard….
In spite of the confinement and especially by respecting the health and safety of all, the work in the vineyard must continue.
At a time when most of France and the whole world is at a standstill, or even at a standstill, nature has really come out of winter and is going through spring at a high speed..
Indeed, the particularly summery weather leads to a very active growth and it is even necessary to wait until the very end of the month to see some rains coming after a month and a half of dry and hot weather.
In Burgundy, it is at this stage one of the earliest vintages; the vine is up to 24 days ahead of 2019…
Disbudding begins on April 20.
In this month of April, before and after Easter, horsetail preparations (2 April) and 500P (9 and 30 April) are spread.
It was also in mid-April that the horns came out of the ground after composting for 6 months.
On the vine side, a conservatory was planted while during the winter the vineyard “Les Genevrays” (which was part of the Bourgogne Passetoutgrain appellation) was pulled up.
In the cellar….
The last vintages were bottled on April 24th (Chambolle Musigny 1er cru les Charmes and Nuits St Georges 1er cru La Richemone).
Still no bottle has left the cellar.
So 3 new vintages were born with this 2018 vintage.
